Mini Biography:
Salman Khan was born on 27th December 1965 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh to Salma Khan and Salim Khan, a screenwriter who has to his credit several successful films like Sholay, Deewar and Don. His step-mother is Helen, an actress and dancer famous for her blonde wigs and shimmies. He has two brothers Arbaaz and Sahil, who have also worked in Bollywood and two sisters Alvira and Arpita. His sister Alvira is married to Atul Agnihotri who was an actor before taking on the role of a director.
Salman has dated some of the prettiest faces of Bollywood like Somy Ali, Sangeeta Bijlani and Aishwarya Rai. His current partner is Katrina Kaif.
The Jailbird
Salman, when not wow-ing his audience on-screen, has managed to get into quite a few tangles with the law off-screen. In 1999, he was accused of shooting Chinkara, an endangered species during the shooting of Hum Saath Saath Hai and was awarded a jail term. After days spent behind bars and several appeals that were denied, he is currently out on bail.
He has also been at the receiving end of fatwas for permitting Madame Tussaud’s to make a wax statue of him and then participating in the Ganesh festival.
Aishwarya Rai’s parents had pressed charges against him for harassment after the couple broke up. In 2005, alleged tapes were released of Salman Khan threatening Aishwarya Rai to participate in events supported by the underworld. These charges were dropped as the tapes were found to be doctored.
The Actor 1988–1993 He played a supporting role in the film Biwi Ho Tho Aisi released in 1988.
It was followed by the extremely successful 1989 hit Maine Pyaar Kiya, winning him the Filmfare Best Debut Award. This was followed by a string of films like Bhaaghi, Sanam Bewafa, Pathar Ke Phool and Saajan, which did very well at the box office. The films released in 1992 and 1993 were pretty average.
1994-1999 He came back to the top of the charts with his films Andaz Apna Apna with Aamir Khan and the opulent family drama Hum Aapke Hai Kaun opposite Madhuri Dixit, which is considered to me one of the biggest blockbusters of Bollywood. He played the role of Arjun in Karan Arjun with Shah Rukh Khan in 1995. Khamoshi-The Musical was the best of his 1996 films and was critically acclaimed. 1997 was again a bleak year for Salman. He made up for it in 1998 with Pyaar Kiya Tho Darna Kya with Kajol and his appearance in the hit Kuch Kuch Hota Hai as Aman, which won him the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor award. In 1999, he co-starred with Karishma Kapoor in the hit comedy Biwi No.1. He starred with Aishwarya Rai and Ajay Devgan in the love story Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam which made waves in India and overseas. The film Hello Brother carried a family tag on it as he starred alongside his brother Arbaaz Khan and it was directed by his brother Sahil Khan.
2000-2008 Salman continued to churn out several films. Some did fairly well like Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega in 2000 and Chori Chori Chupke Chupke in 2001, both films in which he worked with Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta. None of his movies that came out in 2002 worked well. He made up for it with Tere Naam in 2003 that not only did well at the box office but his performance was appreciated widely. He played the role of an AIDS patient in Phir Milenge that came out in 2004. The World Health Organisation commended the film for it’s portrayal of AIDS. Mujhse Shaadi Karoge in 2004, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? in 2005 and funnies like No Entry in 2005 and Partner in 2007 kept his fans hooked. His Hollywood venture with Ali Larter, Marigold: An Adventure In India was flopped. He took over from Jim Carrey in God Tussi Great Ho in 2008, based on the Hollywood comedy Bruce Almighty. He has put in an appearance in Hello, which is adapted from Chetan Bhagat’s book One Night at a Call Center. \
More
The later part of 2008 will see him in three more films Heroes, Yuvvraj, Wanted Dead or Alive while Main Aur Mrs.Khanna is lined up for release in 2009.
His work was noticed internationally in the movie Phir Milenge (2004) where he played the role of an AIDS patient. It was well appreciated by the World Health Organization (WHO) for presenting the problems of AIDS patient in today's world.

Personal Quotes
The only person I have hurt is myself.
For me acting, comes straight from the heart. In that sense I don't act at all. I think that to feel the character's pain I have to be myself. Somewhere audiences see that.
On his childhood problems and his father's second marriage to Helen: It was very difficult in the beginning, when everybody was talking about it. My mother just couldn't take it. It hurt her terribly. She used to worry all the time, go in to depression frequently. When she cried, we children used to cry with her.

Always believes in giving newcomers a chance. So he spares time in between shots to listen to their script ideas and credits this to his memory of when he was a newcomer.
Was the first Bollywood Star to work in the Hollywood film industry and his debut film was Marigold: An Adventure In India.
Brother-in-law of Malaika Arora and Seema Sachdev Khan.
Was working as a model before he became a successful actor and television host.\
Few years back, "Peoples" magazine declared him as one of the ten best looking men in the world. But 1998 was also the year this brawny brat flexed his muscles at the Bollywood box office. How? Well, he had three smash hits in a row Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai and Bandhan. Add to this, a dashing guest appearance in the blockbuster, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. In other words, it was the year of reckoning for Salman Khan, who had finally arrived at the pinnacle after being dismissed repeatedly by the trade denizens despite participating in history creating blockbusters over the years.
Salman the eldest son of scriptwriter Salim Khan (of the famous Salim-Javed duo who penned Sholay, Deewar, Zanjeer and many more blockbusters, and created the angry young man icon in Amitabh Bachchan in the 70's) made an inauspicious debut over a decade ago in "Biwi Ho To Aisi". He was ridiculed and made fun of before Sooraj Barjatya's "Maine Pyaar Kiya" turned him into a household name and an heartthrob of millions. Now to think that Sooraj Barjatya was nearly pressurised into dropping Salman from his directorial debut! In fact, even papa Salim confesses that had he been in the young director's place, "I might have been hesitant (to take Salman)." But Sooraj's faith in Salman wasn't shaken and "Maine Pyaar Kiya" turned them both in tinsel town hottest properties. However, despite the film's success, Salman was candid enough to admit that he had made little contribution to the Barjatya blockbuster. In fact, as far as he was concerned, he was just okay giving himself just "three out of ten marks". But that was a pretty good score for somebody who had once upon a time flirted with the dreams of becoming a swimmer or a pilot, and had been dismissed by the film industry. The success of the candy floss love story, was followed by a handful of hits, like "Baaghi", "Sanam Bewafa", "Patthar Ke Phool" and "Saajan". However, the golden run was too good to last. A few bad choices of film roles and his popularity suddenly "nose-dived" in the early 90s, a downward journey that coincided with his unpopularity with a press that found him too intimidating and unapproachable.
And then once again came Sooraj Barjatya to the rescue with "Hum Aapke Hain Kaun". While the movie made box office history, Salman Khan suddenly found a new facet to his acting persona, his flair for seemigly effortless comedy. Though his grim intensity blazed the screen and stole the show in Rakesh Roshan's Karan Arjun, it was his romantic humorous, yet quite sensitive avatar that Bollywood set out to explore. One of the best results of this exploration was Khamoshi, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial debut. The film touched many hearts with its tears-jerking moments underlining the sublime relationship between deaf and dumb parents, played by Nana Patekar and Seema Biswas, and their daughter, portrayed by Manisha Koirala. But the pathos in the film was finely balanced by Salman's breezy presence evoking laughter effortlessly, prompting remarks from industry veterans like Jaya Bachchan, who told a journalist after seeing the film,"Of course, it was Manisha's film but I thought Salman was brilliant". A thought shared by everyone but his hard-nosed detractors within the industry. Critical acclaim and awards don't seem to matter much for this actor with arguably the best physique in Bollywood. In fact, so proud is he of his hard earned body of marathon workouts that Salman leaves no opportunity to display his near-perfect physique on the screen. The best example of course is the song "Oh ho jaane Jaana.. " from "Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya", a film directed by his brother Sohail (and also co-starring his younger brother Arbaaz) which was once again a showcase of his immense comic potential. Some say that he is an actor with severe limitations. But Salman Khan has time and again surprised his critics by often rising above the script and its treatment to give the film in his Salman Khan, one of the hottest stars of Bollywood today, has been charming his fans since 1989. He debuted in the Hindi film industry, as a leading star, with the movie ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’. The film was a major hit and since its release, Salman has been climbing the ladder of success. Today, he is counted amongst the top stars of Bollywood, comparable to the likes of Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan. In the course of his career till date, he has been a part of the highest earning films of five distinct years.
Career:
Salman Khan’s debut as a leading actor came with Sooraj R. Barjatya's ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, which was released in 1989. The movie went on to become one of the most successful films of that time and also got him Filmfare Best Male Debut Award, apart from a nomination for Filmfare Best Actor Award. In 1990, he was seen in ‘Baaghi’, with South Indian actress Nagma, which turned out to be another major hit. The following year, Salman Khan starred in a number of films, including ‘Patthar Ke Phool’, ‘Sanam Bewafa’ and ‘Saajan’.
The movie ‘Saajan’ established him as an actor who could perform some serious roles too and helped him move away from the ‘romantic guy’ image. However, the initial success could not guarantee future hits and almost all his 1992-1993 releases turned out to be flops. It was in 1994 that Salman Khan became the king of box office once again, when Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ hit the theaters. The movie turned out to be one of the highest grossers of all times and also won him his second nomination for Filmfare Best Actor Award.
The same year, Salman Khan was seen in ‘Andaz Apna Apna’, ‘Sangdil Sanam’ and ‘Chaand Kaa Tukdaa’. None of them were box-office hits, but the first one did establish his talent in the field of comedy. In 1995 came Rakesh Roshan's ‘Karan Arjun’, in which he co-starred with Shahrukh Khan. The film went on to become the second biggest hit of the year and Salman Khan bagged a nomination for Filmfare Best Actor Award. With the arrival of 1996 came Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ‘Khamoshi: The Musical’ and Raj Kanwar's ‘Jeet’.
While the first movie received tremendous critically acclaim, the second one made excellent business at the box office. ‘Judwaa’ and ‘Auzaar’ were Salman Khan’s releases in the year 1997, with the former being quite a success. In 1998, he starred in the comedy ‘Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya’, which was one of the biggest commercial successes of that year. The same year, he was also seen in the moderately successful ‘Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai’. Then came Karan Johar's directorial debut, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’.
In ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, Salman Khan played a supporting role and ended up receiving his second Filmfare Award, this time under the Best Supporting Actor category. The year 1999 saw him in films like ‘Hum Saath-Saath Hain’, ‘Biwi No.1’ and ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’. While the first was moderately successful, the other two went on to become major box-office hits. With ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, he got another Best Actor nomination at Filmfare. Salman Khan was seen in around six films in the year 2000.
Of these, two - ‘Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega’ and ‘Chori Chori Chupke Chupke’ did average business, while the rest were failures. ‘Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam’, his much-delayed film with Madhuri and Shahrukh, was released in 2002, but barely managed to earn its worth. Success continued to evade Salman Khan till 2003, when ‘Tere Naam’ was released. Not only was the movie a major hit, but it also earned him great comments from the critics. The same year, he was seen in ‘Baghban’, which got him nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award.
Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and No Entry (2005) were his other hit films. The year 2006 was rather unlucky for Salman Khan, as his films failed to do well at the box office. Even his first 2007 release ‘Salaam E Ishq’ did not manage to charm the audience. However, with the success of ‘Partner’ (2007), he again came back in the top league. His first Hollywood movie, Marigold: An Adventure in India’, was a commercial as well as critical failure. In 2008, Salman Khan entered the small screen, with the game show, ‘Dus Ka Dum’.
Personal Life:
Since the past many years, Salman Khan has been known for his amazing body. He is one of the first actors who realized the importance of bodybuilding and having six-pack abs. In 2004, People magazine of U.S. voted him as the 7th best-looking man in the World and the best looking man in India. He has had relationships with a number of females in the past, which include Sangeeta Bijlani, Somy Ali and Aishwarya Rai. Touted to be the ‘Most Eligible Bachelor’ of Bollywood, he has been dating model-turned-actress Katrina Kaif since 2003.
Despite his tough guy and angry young man image, Salman Khan has always been the favorite of the audience. Behind his tough stance is a sensitive heart that constantly indulges in charities and loves to bring a smile on people’s face. In October 2007, he accepted an offer to have his wax replica in Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in London. The life-size wax statue was installed there in January 2008. Salman Khan is the step-son of the yesteryears diva Helen and has Malaika Arora Khan as his sister-in-law (Arbaaz’s wife) and Atul Agnihotri as his brother-in-law (Alvira’s husband).
His Own Charitable Organization:

The organization is officially known as Salman Khan Foundation – Being Human. When asked what Being Human mean to him, Salman replied: “Being human for me is being human. We all are human beings and I think we don’t do anything human to be human so you have to do something. I mean God gives you so much and you know eventually you need to start giving it back. Everyone does that, I’m sure, in some way or the other but I wanted to start this on my own for a long time now. But I just couldn’t find the time and I’m more inclined to this now.”The charitable organization Being Human Salman Khan NGO plans to raise funds by selling T-shirts, watches and other accessories along with Salman Khan’s original paintings.Note: www.beinghumanfoundation.org is not the Salman’s Being Human website.
